DNA Analysis

Increasingly breeds are using DNA analysis both for parentage verification but also to identify ‘markers’ for functional genes. These might be inherited diseases, or faults, improved production characteristics or physical manifestations including colours and patterns.

The Grassroots DNA module enables the Breed Society to track the sampling of DNA so that farmers can apply online via the online registry.  The system then records the dispatch and receipt of those samples to and from the farmer and to the lab. The results are then imported back into the data electronically, from whichever lab has carried out the tests.

The results can then be used in analysis and breed reports. They can also be displayed in the Online Registry, included on certificates in Stud Books, Herd Books, Flock Books and on Zootechnical certificates.
